History

History
1970 Established "Mine Electronic Ceramics Factory", a plant specialized in electronic ceramics, in Mine City of Yamaguchi Pref. and started this business.
1991 Separated from Narumi China Corporation and independently founded Sumitomo Metal Ceramics, Inc. as a 100%-owned subsidiary company of Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd.
1993 Obtained ISO9002 certification.
1994 Entrusted product inspection to Globetronics Technology Bhd., a semiconductor part manufacturing company based in Penang, Malaysia, and established SMCi Globetronics Technology Sdn. Bhd., a joint venture company with Globetronics Technology Bhd.
1995 Established SMCi Globetronics Technology Industries Sdn. Bhd., a joint venture company with Globetronics Technology Bhd. in Penang, Malaysia.
1996 Transfered the business right of the ceramic electronic component business from Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. Established Sumitomo Metal (SMI) Electronics Devices Inc.
1997 Obtained ISO9001 certification.
1998 Founded SMI-ED Ogaki Ceramics, Inc. (Head office, Ogaki City) as a 100%-owned subsidiary company of Sumitomo Metal (SMI) Electronics Devices Inc.
2000 Inherited Electronics Functional Components business from Sumitomo Metal Industries and integrated into our business.
2001 Established a sales office in Germany (Frankfurt)
2002 Purchased the stocks of joint venture SMCi Globetronics Technology Industries Sdn. Bhd. from Globetronics Technology Bhd., and turned it into our 100%-owned subsidiary.
Founded Suzhou SMI Electronics, Co., Ltd. (Head office: Suzhou City, China) as a 100%-owned subsidiary company of Sumitomo Metal (SMI) Electronics Devices Inc.
2004 Entered into a joint venture agreement with Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. for our subsidiary SMI-ED Ogaki Ceramics Co., Ltd.
Obtained ISO14001 certification.
Established US sales office in Phoenix, Arizona.
2006 Renamed SMCi Globetronics Technology Industries Sdn. Bhd. to Sumitomo Metal (SMI) Electronics Devices (M) Sdn. Bhd.
2010 Relocated the plant of founded Suzhou SMI Electronics, Co., Ltd.
2012 Renamed to Nippon Steel & Sumikin Electronics Devices Inc. due to the integration of parent company.
2014 Closed a sales office in Flankfurt, Germany.
2015 Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation sold all stocks of our company to NGK Insulators, Ltd.
Renamed to NGK ELECTRONICS DEVICES, INC., and started as a member of NGK Group.
2016 Acquired the certification of ISO/TS16949 on our DCB substratesproducts.
2017 Closed NGK Electronics Devices Suzhou Co., Ltd.
2019 Closed down Malaysia sales company Kuala Lumpur branch and integrated it into Malaysia sales company headquarters in Penang.
Obtained ISO45001 certification.
2022 Acquired the ISO/TS16949 certification on our crystal package products.
