Compliance
What is compliance?
In the first place, the word “compliance” means strict observation. Therefore, what to observe is important for understanding “compliance.”
In Japan, the word “compliance” has been conventionally used to mean “to strictly observe laws and regulations, and not to conduct illegal actions.” Recently, however, the meaning of the term is not limited to “strict observation of laws and regulations,” and the term has come to be used to mean not to do “things that must not be done,” “things it is not appropriate to do,” and “things that should not be done” like the meaning of corporate policy, as a corporate that should be a sound social entity even though those things do not violate relevant laws or regulations. This meaning is same as the meaning used in the U.S. and Europe.
Also in our company, we will understand the term “compliance” in this broad sense, and in our compliance rules, the term is defined as “management and other corporate activities that are compliant with laws and regulations as well as other social norms.”
